Can a vision board change your life? Oprah, Deepak Chopra, Katy Perry, Steve Harvey, and Ellen DeGeneres all think so!

Vision boards have been popular with thousands of believers for many years.

They’re all about creating authentic outcomes for those wanting an ideal life.

I made my first vision board in my flaming youth, fresh out of university.

I was deep in debt, single and wishing I wasn’t, and stuck in a JOB with no hint of an exciting career.

A girlfriend invited me to a vision board party….

She swore by them and was convinced it was the missing ingredient in my life.

I have to admit, after years of academic “critical thinking” and strategic planning, I was decidedly skeptical!

Mostly to appease my girlfriend – and with nothing to lose – I agreed to go to her party (with tongue firmly in cheek, I do admit…!).

Her rule for creating our vision boards was “dream up something wonderfully outrageous that’s beyond anything you’d expect in your life!”.

Seriously????

Career-less, with no money and no boyfriend… I saw dreaming BIG as a real stretch….

Dreaming THAT big seemed ridiculous!

As it happened, the whole day was fun. I finished my vision board and really liked it.

It made me feel happy.

Here’s the thing: Something shifted in me when I created that vision board. My energy changed.

I went from being full of woe-is-me, to feeling a sense of hope. I was excited by anticipating the wonder of WHAT IF?

Then Monday happened and my vision board became a fleeting memory.

Later that year, while packing to move across country, I found that vision board in the dark recesses of my closet.

I could hardly believe it! Everything on that board was actually happening and coming to life for me!

Creating that vision board had nudged me out of my logical, linear thinking…

It inspired me to dream and be receptive to POSSIBILITY…

It brought clarity to what actually mattered to me and nourished me.

Turns out that “WHAT IF” mentality has become one of my biggest super powers!

Without a doubt, the way we think has a direct effect on what we feel, and how we behave as a result.

Sooo, what about YOU?

WHAT IF 2020 is your year?

WHAT IF this is the year you dust off some dreams or pursue a goal right to the very end that makes you wanna do a happy dance no matter who’s looking because YOU DID IT?

As a former vision board critic myself, let me just offer this one suggestion….

TRY. IT.

What do you have to lose?

If you don’t know how to make a vision board, don’t let that stop you. There are tons of resources online.

Vision boards are about creating an INTENTION and finding images, quotes or words that support that intention.

And, if you think you need to be creative to make a vision board, don’t let that stop you either, because you DON’T.

CREATING a vision board involves a 4-step process:

  1. Flipping through magazines
  2. Pulling out images, quotes, words that resonate with you
  3. Sorting and arranging on a poster board
  4. Gluing everything  in place

Then….

LET GO and TRUST THE PROCESS because magic WILL happen!
