Can we take just a moment? We’re already midway through a version of 2020 that I’m sure isn’t ANYTHING close to what we’d imagined or slapped on our vision boards.
So yeah, a minute to catch our breath is well-earned and lonnnnng overdue….
To be honest, I’ve been itching to write a blog or two about resilience since the arrival of this pandemic.
But each time I start, something shiny and bright comes along to distract me.
When one of those distractions included baking a batch of chocolate chip cookies
….that had to be made from scratch
….in the middle of a work day
….during a historic heatwave when NOBODY wants to be near an oven….
Well, THAT was my clue. I was in full procrastination mode!
As important as resilience is, it’s the LAST thing I really feel like digging into these days.
And I’m guessing it’s also the last thing you want to hear about right now.
Let’s face it, in an extremely condensed timespan, our resiliency has been fiercely tested. It’s become like a second skin we climb into every day to navigate these strange times….
The gravity of these uncertain times has been weighty with upheaval and unease….
Yet, despite HUGE relief that there IS a light at the end of this pandemic tunnel, have you noticed how our thoughts, emotions, and energy can still be all over the map?
Yep… There’s definitely a general sense of malaise and lethargy in the air.
We. Are. FATIGUED.
No surprise that we’re kind of sick of it, right?
The need for a mental vacation is being tossed around by a lot of my clients lately.
I can totally relate. Can you?
With most of us missing our pre-Covid social lives, and striving to stay safe in our “bubbles”, the yearning to take a moment in our very own bubble, seems paradoxical.
But it is soooo worth it!
What better time to take a mental vacation?
So let’s do it!
Let’s all take a moment during these lazy days of summer to slow down, catch up with ourselves and reprioritize our energy!
Let’s give ourselves permission to create our very own mental staycation-time-out bubble
….where we can go and NOT have to make any decisions about, well… anything.
….where we can let our minds rest.
….where we can suspend all the worries and anxieties that hover in the back of our minds.
….where we can exhale and slow our breath.
I promise, taking time out to pause FEELS like a vacation. Every. Single. Time.
Choosing to take a mental vacation is that feel-good-wrap-yourself-up-in-a-bubble kind of self-care.
And hey, if you need some inspiration or a little kick-start for that, these 10 essentials for non-negotiable self-care will do the trick!
If you’re the kind of person who needs to be DOING (vs. sitting in quiet reflection), let me share a few of my current go-to’s….
They INSTANTLY transport me to my personal time-out bubble AND gift me with magically refreshing and uplifting mental vacations every time:
- Listening to music – creating playlists of my Top 10 Favourites (songs by decade or fave artists, genres, etc.).
- Being in nature – enjoying alone time by the lake near my home.
- Baking – remember those chocolate chip cookies I told you about?? LOL.
- Taking cell photos – creating a photo journal of my day to day in black and white.
- Revisiting the past – trolling through old photos and albums.
- Quality time with besties – nothing beats zoom, phone or even long emails and letters with our favourite people. Reconnecting with three childhood friends has definitely been a highlight for me during this pandemic!
Here’s to you finding
many moments of respite
in your time-out bubble too, Bella.
Peace out….
